A Brief History of Perfume For thousands of years, people have enjoyed a love affair
with fragrance. Extracting natural resins and oils from woods, flowers, herbs, spices and wild grasses dates back to the earliest civilizations. The ancient Egyptians were the first known master crafters
of perfume for personal enjoyment and sacred ceremony. Since those
long-forgotten days, only natural ingredients were used in perfumery. Then suddenly in
the early 1900's, cheaper mass produced synthetic fragrances
completely replaced the more expensive organic
aromatics. Although cost effective for the manufacturer and a bit more
tenacious for the wearer, synthetics do not possess the softness,
nuances and multi- layered richness of natural essences. For example, there is no
comparison between the flat, musty smell of synthetic rose fragrance
and the complex magical aroma of unfurling petals found in true rose
absolute. Natural perfume also has the added benefit of reacting with your
individual body chemistry to create a scent that's uniquely your
own. At spaõ we are committed to restoring the lost art of
natural perfumery. Drawing from the practices of the ancients, we use only the
finest essential oils, resins, attars, absolutes and perfume alcohol in our
